The coral reef biome was added in the 1.6.4 Biomes o' Plenty update and contains varying colors of coral, algae, and sponges. It is on a very flat sea shelf and can span large areas. Sometimes it can reach the surface. When you harvest either coral or algae, you earn an achievment.

- Kelp can also spawn here rarely.
- Before 1.8, sponges can spawn naturally. This is a reference to the natural sponges commonly found in coral reefs.
